Stream Geomorphology Data Exchange

OVERVIEW

River morphology data are essential for analyzing and modelingsedimentation processes which directly influence the shape, dynamics, and evolution of river systems. They generally include bathymetry, topographic surveys, sediment grain size distributions, flow velocities, and remote sensing data. The interaction between sediment supply, water flow, and channel form affects key river characteristics such aschannel stability, bank erosion, habitat diversity, and flood risk. This effort focuses on improving access to river morphology data across the nation. The RIMORPHIS platform, a derivative of efforts from this subcommittee, enables river morphology research and education byproviding a platform for accessing, processing and visualizing rivermorphology from various data sources.
