The Reservoir Sedimentation and Sustainability Focus Area includes all technical aspects of reservoir sedimentation effects and potential sediment management actions. Sedimentation reduces reservoir storage capacity over time, causes aggradation along upstream channels, and may lead to degradation along the downstream channel. Reservoir sediment management strategies include reducing sediment yield from the upstream watershed, passing inflowing sediments through or around the reservoir, removing sediment from the reservoir, and adaptive strategies to cope with the decreasing storage capacity.
